This program is for the creative student who wishes to learn more about the technical aspects of communication and self expression. People who follow this program as a career path find employment as graphic and web designers, animators, photographers, illustrators, art directors, marketers, advertising and within the movie industry. Work environments can be found within large corporations, universities, advertising and marketing agencies, movie and animation studios, publishing houses, recording studios and with the advent of internet technology, one's own bedroom.
Starting August 30, 2011, we will begin our 4th year of existence, our third full year. We are a small program located in the smallest tech center in one of the smallest states in the Union. Therefore, this one program offers up as much as the student body looks for. For DVCI, this means exposure to design concepts and problem solving, drawing, photography, typography, videography and software such as Finalcut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. That's all we usually have time for that first year.
The second year, when my students are all seniors and seriously looking for what's ahead in life, they can choose a plethora of options once they have ensured that they have met the basic State competencies for the program. Available to them are: web design (and basic html, CSS and Java programming languages) using Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash; 2D animation; 3D rendering and animation using Maya and 3D Studio Max; advanced videography and post production using Apple Finalcut Pro and Adobe After Effects; graphic design production; illustration; and advanced photography, including studio and sports photography.
All students are expected to develop a digital portfolio capable to be viewed online.
